Giveaway! Winemaking Class for 2

Posted September 7, 2011

I am beyond excited to share with all of you today the great news: today we are featuring our very first giveaway! Grape n Grains, a domestic winery and home brew supply store, is giving a 2 hr. wine making class for two (complete with food, drink and 2 complimentary bottles of wine to take home—an $80 value!) to one of our devoted readers! You could take your best friend, a new someone on a date, your significant other, or even your beer & wine aficionado parent (my mom just had a birthday, so it was on my mind…who wouldn’t love to try something like this?!) I know I wouldn’t complain about a date night sans the new baby (new parents out there: a night out AND wine? Yes please.)

Having just opened this past spring, Grape n Grains allows customers to make their own wine, right there at the facility. You end up with 30 bottles for roughly $5.50 a bottle; tell me that isn’t a fantastic price! Not only do you get to make the wine, but you can customize it with your own label and color of shrink-wrap sleeve. Here’s where the wedding-related part comes in; you could do this as favors for your rehearsal dinner, or add to the 30 bottle amount and make enough for favors for the wedding day, complete with your photo, date and a note from the couple. But they don’t stop at wine: in the next couple of months they will be able to facilitate on site beer making as well; not to mention the homemade root beer, vanilla creme, sarsaparilla, and hard cider!

I had the opportunity to meet with Kenny and Janel Anderson, the owners, and taste some of the wines they’ve made and feature. Varying from 8-13% alcohol, they have a wide variety of reds and whites as well as blends that impress. Let me tell you, with one sip I was envisioning relaxing by the lake with a bottle of their blackberry merlot or kiwi melon pinot grigio; their blends are so fabulous. My personal favorite from the tasting: a tie between the Luna Rossa and blackberry merlot…. apparently I should go back and taste test again to attempt to delcare a winner.

The possibilities  for making your own custom wine are endless: my mind is already bubbling over with new ideas, with customized bottles from our family as Christmas gifts to all, or doing a set this year as the “Olivia” vintage, in honor of our daughter being born, and enjoying 1 bottle a year (though it would more likely be 2-3 bottles a year, until she turned 10…), as a new homeowner doing a set to enjoy with guests, in honor of the date you came to on the house… I’m sure I could find a reason for anyone to do this!
They have a great tasting area that would be perfect for small events like rehearsal dinners, bridal luncheons and even bachelorette parties, for those who want something a bit out of the ordinary. If you are wanting to check this out and don’t win (sorry there can only be one!), they have tastings every Saturday at 6:30 PM, with the wine making class at $39/person, and are open every day for you to go in and explore.
