inspiration: nessa’s wedding

Posted February 24, 2011

My sweet and amazing sister Vanessa got engaged just before New Year’s Eve this past year, and will be tying the knot on June 25th!

Vanessa & Billy, her fiance

Time seems to already be flying by, but things are coming together quickly. She kindly asked me to be matron of honor, and firmly indicated that was also NOT wedding planner. I am doing my best to refrain from jumping into professional mode and give her all my thoughts on every detail; I think now I’ve finally gotten to the point where I’m doing the act-as-a-sister-only thing much more gracefully! Her style and desires for a wedding are so different from mine, but SO COOL. If you know us, it’s evident from even the first meeting: she’s the trendy cool one, hands down! So, without further ado, I will share some of her inspiration images for you to imagine… (and yes, I got her permission first!) so after June 25th, hopefully I will do a post recapping the event to show you how she took the inspiration and turned it into her own reality.

something like this, but with more color!

the ceremony will be in front of an old red barn similar to this, and they are planning to do homemade strawberry jam for favors

more jam ideas

and though I can't show her dress, here is a bit of potential embellishment...

So from these, we can derive that it will be an outdoor, family friendly, homegrown, down to earth, fantastically fun and creatively styled event… but classy and most definitely delicious, from first taste of the apps at cocktail hour to the late evening slice of homemade wedding cake (by the groom’s mom). It’s sure to be one heck of a party! On a more personal note, I am considering this dress to wear:

loose wrapped layers = kind and forgiving to a new mommy body

I wanted something more upscale than a simple summer sundress, and it needs to hide any post-baby body craziness I might be dealing with, since the wedding is only 2 months after my due date! I know the color isnt as vibrant as some of the stuff you see above, but I figure I can put on some bright fun jewelry/shoes/hair accent and bring it more into her color scheme—and she gave this dress the thumbs up, so we shall see!
