Real Wedding: Alecia & Micah

Posted February 8, 2016

Weddings are all about family and Alecia and Micah’s special day was no exception! Their summery July wedding at the Huguenot Mill Loft at the Peace Center tied together the bride’s love of family + sunflowers to make a perfect day. One of the most special parts of the day was when the weather came through to deliver one of the bride’s wishes for her wedding. Just before Alecia was about to walk down the aisle, a thunderstorm knocked out the power leaving just the emergency lights and a chandelier burning. The naturally dimmed lights made for a romantic and intimate ceremony. (Rain doesn’t have to ruin your wedding, as we have witnessed before.) Alecia shared with us that she had always hoped for a rain storm during her wedding, so needless to say, for her the day was just perfect!

Alecia chose the rich colors of ivory, olive green and hints of deep purple to create a sophisticated and classic southern affair. Her bridesmaids wore beautiful v-neck, floor length gowns in a classic shade of purple that complemented their sunflower bouquets perfectly. Alecia was rocking a strapless, a-line dress with a sweetheart neckline and the perfect accent of lace around the bodice. She carried a bouquet of full of stunning sunflowers, ranunculus, peonies and other summer beauties.  The fellas looked dapper in their grey suits with accents of purple in their ties and vests.

The couple uniquely wove family into various parts of the day. As guests entered the Loft they were greeted by a display of photographs, showing the bride and groom’s family members on their wedding days, honoring those who could only be with the couple in spirit. Each couple’s photograph was accompanied with flower arrangement and was the perfect way to ensure that though they may no longer be here, they weren’t forgotten.

The couple also used just the right types of DIY touches that made the day perfectly personable. Alecia’s aunt cooked hundreds of cookies for dessert and drove them all the way from Pennsylvania. Not only were they delicious, but they made a colorful display that was so lovely it was (almost) sad to eat it! Alecia created much of the reception detail including the menus, tables signs, and ceremony program frame to tie all the design details together. The Brandy Brothers band did a great job getting everyone out on the floor with their live sound, but the Father of the Bride stole the show! Their father/daughter dance to “Under the Sea” was coordinated with a home video showing them dancing when Alecia was just a little girl to the same song. There wasn’t a dry eye in the reception! After a simply perfect and joy filled day, Alecia and Micah left under the light of sparklers to drive off in a convertible Camero to begin their married life together. We had so much fun helping make Micah & Alecia’s day a reality!
